Everything the cowards wouldn't say

Everything the cowards wouldn't say

Everything the cowards wouldn't say.

She was innocent,
everything she could be,
her goals rolled up in skin that her hands had touched.
Her life didn't grow no moss because,
her mind and ideas always burned, wild and bright.
Just like fires always did.
Just like shallow minds always ignored the plight,
and thought it a lesser sin.
Like the smoke was too much to bear.
Everything the cowards wouldn't say.

These cowards wouldn't say,
that they saw the injustice.
That they saw what was straight and chose to live in color.
That they thought,
their forceful minds and armoured thoughts made them seem like heroes at a bonfire she didn't want to attend.
You burn yourself each night,
hope for enough humidity to blur out your reflection.
To not show you the scars,
burned face,
that remind you of everything she must have felt.
Did she see fear like a prison guard,
slowly taking away the oxygen to her lungs like a last meal to an execution.
Like, every last gasp of air told her she wasn't enough.
That we cowards should have been enough.
Did you ever think of all the lasts she must have pictured,
in that moment.
When the smoke covered her face,
her skin turned to pain,
the ash on her brittle bones felt,
everything the cowards wouldn't say.

I choose to believe,
that she had happy thoughts,
that she chose to not blame herself or anyone else.
That she thought about her peers,
whose trees had just started to grow.
Whose forests could be seen the world over.
Whose eyes didn't see the fire that burned,
that turned that one tree to ash because you thought her in the way of your greed and blind Faith.
Like you thought it a race and just had to win.
To be the triumphant hero,
that scattered defenseless kids against your lucid beliefs you imagined your Rome.

You scattered glass,
then claimed the paper cuts from fake reports justified your not so hidden faults.
Alas you lied,
and kept it quiet you cowards.
Then saw your family,
and called it home,
she will never get that chance.

Dedicated to someone special, that won't ever be able to read this.
